Gay-Straight Alliance
Sorry I haven't been on in a while, but I have been really busy, what with school and things. I have something to discuss further with you that I talked about a little bit in one of my earlier posts: the gay-striaght alliance.
One of my friends at school got approval from our principal to start a gay-straight alliance at school. She wrote a letter to the school board explaining why we should have the club. We already have a teacher willing to be our sponsor, or to stay after school and help with it. We'll be learning about discrimination against gays and other things that have happened to them in the future. It would be a place for LGBTs (lesbian gay bi transexual) to come and seek support. We are trying to emphasize that it would not be a group about preaching our beliefs on others.
Now, I'm straight but I support gay rights. I didn't used to in the future, but I do now. Some kids in our school are saying that we won't be allowed to have the club, but they're wrong. This has happened to tons of other schools, when the school board didn't approve the club. The kids took them to court, and won...every single case.
Leaving you with these thoughts, I ask you to please comment me, tell me what you think, and wheter or not you support the idea. I'm trying to find support where and when I can, so the more people I get the more it might convince the school board that our club should be allowed. Thanks a BUNCH!

Animal/ Child Abuse
Do you have a pet? I do. I have three dogs, two of which just had puppies. I also have a bird and a cat. And I love my animals. A lot. I take care of them, feed and water them, and give them lots of love. That's because I really care about my animals. And you'll probably agree with me that there are a lot of people out there who don't care about their animals.
Have you ever seen those really sad commercials where it plays the sad song and shows all the sad little animals in the pound? I think it is a very sad commercial. But there are the animal abusers out there who see those commercials and just laugh, because they're the ones whose fault it is that the animals are in there.
Now I turn your attention to another, more controversial topic: child abuse. You see it on the news almost everyday. Someone has murdered their kid. Someone has beat their kid. Someone has neglected their kid. It's a sad fact that this has become a common thing to see on the news in today's society.
Another sad fact; people ignore this. They know it's going on and yet they choose to do nothing about it. But what if they saw someone abusing a dog? They'd be right there. It's pretty sad that people feel the need to save an animal rather than save a human being. What do you think?

Music Stereotypes and Music Influences
I know you all listen to music. You probably even have a favorite song, style, genre, and singer of music. So what makes you like this music? Is it the beat, the lyrics? Probably one, if not both of these. For me, it's usually the beat, but there are a lot of songs' lyrics that I like. So do you think that the type of music influences how you think or act? You'll probably say no. But look at how people stereotype each other based on music.
Let's say you see a cowboy. What automatically clicks in your mind? They like country. They have country CD's in their Ford trucks. What if you see a gangster? Or someone dressed in gangster clothes? What do you think then? They listen to rap. Hardcore rap, too. With lots of cursing and cussing. And you're probably afraid of them, so you move away. See? There are a lot more stereotypes on music than you think.
But I'm not finished yet. What about when you see someone with a big, colorful mohawk and dog collars and excessive makeup? You think; they like hard rock. They listen to headbanging, and they hate preppies. They sometimes play imaginary air guitars when they listen to guitar music, which you think they do a lot of. But what about when you see someone dresses in all black, and black hair, with extra eyeliner and a slow walk and "mean" look? What do you think about THEM? Bam, in your mind; emo. You probably assume they cut and have a million CD's of emo music in their rooms and that they're severely depressed. MUSIC IS EVERYTHING IN TODAY'S SOCIETY!
Let's switch it up a bit. Let's say the cowboy listens to emo and heavy metal, and the ganster, emo kid, and hard rocker all listen to country. Seems funny doesn't it? Just doesn't seem to fit? I'll admit; it seems weird to me also. But that's just how much music styles influence modern life. You just don't really think about it too much. That's why stereotyping is bad!

Debating, Part Two: Gay Rights
Hey, it's me again
I'm a Christian. You know that. Everyone says Christianity is an anti-gay religion. Well, to me it isn't; the Lord I know says people should love and be loved; isn't that what gay people want? To love and be loved? At my school, we're trying to form a gay-straight alliance (me being on the straight side, of course). Everyone says the school wouldn't support it. Now this is where it gets interesting. The school has a Christian club, so why wouldn't they let someone have a gay-straight alliance? If they don't let us have that, then they can't let them have a Christian club because they let them have a club to support their beliefs, which is what the gay-straight alliance wants to do, support their own beliefs.
So if you would please, share your thoughts. Tell me what you think about this and if you support it or don't support it; I like to know what you guys think! Please don't be rude though! ;)

Debating
Blog Readers of America:
Hey, I'm Monica and this is my new blog. I'm new to the whole "blogging" thing so you'll have to bear with me if all I write is crap; hopefully it will eventually be better as time goes on. Sort of like America's Next Top Model; where the girls start out as really bad models but then get awesome. Look at Natasha Galkina; and even Eva Pigford. So there you go!
I couldn't think of anything to write, so I just decided to talk about some of the things that I discuss with my friends. I have friends who I like to debate with ALL the time. We argue about everything under the sun. War, religion, abortion, and gay rights are just a few of our most common topics. I'll talk about them and my viewpoints here.
Starting with the war: my viewpoint makes a lot of people mad because most of America's population is arguing against me. See, I believe the war in Iraq SHOULD be going on. Now most people reading this will be closing this window like 'This girl doesn't know what she's talking about'. And maybe I don't. But here's why I feel this way: remember September 11, 2001? I bet you do. Where were the U.S. Army Troops at that point? Here in the USA. Where are they now? In Iraq, defending us and doing one heck of a job. Have we had any serious bombings like that of the World Trade Center/ Pentagon? Nope. So there's where I see a connection; army troops in USA=larger scale bombings. Army Troops fighting in Iraq=USA is protected and terrorist free! Though I love to argue in a friendly way, I do NOT argue as in "Your opinion is stupid". Instead, say "No, and this is why...". So if you disagree with me, comment why and be sure to back it up. I'll reply to every single comment given!
Next issue: abortion. Here we go... I love talking about this and do you know why? Because I have such a strong opinion on this subject. Do I agree with abortion? Absolutely not. I believe that every baby deserves a chance at life, no matter if it was an accident or not. A lot of people don't know about open adoption; it's where you can find a family to raise your baby, but you will still be involved in their life, and still be able to get to know them even if you can't afford a baby. And if you kill your non-born infant simply ecause you are afraid of the pain of childbirth; uh, sory, that's a pretty crappy reason to do it. Getting rid of a life because you're afraid of pain? It's just wrong. And people will say the baby isn't even alive yet; yes it is! It has all its organs and limbs, a brain and a heart, just like any other person, just smaller.
And now we talk about religion. You know, I don't even know if I want to blog about this topic because I'm a Christian and of course I'll argue my religionis the right one, which might offend someone who reads this who isn't a Christian. So I'll just stop right here.
Well, I'll be discussing more in my next post. Please come back and read, comment, and pass on. Thanks for reading!
